Pato I Ceramic Box

Ceramic box in the shape of a duck (Pato in Portuguese). A great classic of traditional Portuguese ceramics which aims to represent flora and fauna as faithfully as possible.

The design of this piece is characteristic of the so-called Caldas da Rainha ceramics, whose most famous author is Bordallo Pinheiro. It benefits from excellent quality and great care in its finishing.

This piece comes from a small workshop located between Caldas da Rainha and Obidos in the Central West of Portugal, in the province of Estremadura.

The moulds used there have been handed down from generation to generation and the owner of the workshop now uses his grandfather's moulds. All the pieces are made entirely by hand.
