Glazed Earthenware Rectangular Baking Dish - 37x26cm is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Natural earthenware baking dish made in Portugal using ancestral methods, yet refined in its form and free from folkloric decorations.
Earthenware utensils are known for providing gentle, even cooking that preserves natural aromas and enhances the taste of food. In addition, earthenware keeps dishes warm for a long time, which is ideal for serving at the table.
Here, the earthenware is glazed, protecting it from absorbing fats and liquids, making the utensils healthier, easier to clean and more resistant to stains.
The use of local clay from the Alentejo, together with entirely manual production in a century-old workshop, ensures the ethical and environmentally friendly character of this piece.

When you choose a piece from this remarkable collection, you will have the privilege of owning an object shaped by the hands of José Alves, one of the last potters to work with local earthenware clay.
This family pottery, whose roots go back to his great-great-grandfather, remains in the same place today. "I thought the continuity of our workshop was at risk, but one of my daughters came to give me a hand…" he says with emotion.
The red clay, known as "Olaria de barro vermelho", is particularly well suited for making functional tableware and is especially good for preparing spectacular stews: "In an earthenware pot, meat becomes exceptionally tender", smiles José Alves, showing his expertise and love for his craft.
